Light and shadow photography is a type of photography that focuses on capturing the interplay between light and shadow in a particular scene. This style of photography often produces dramatic and compelling images that can evoke strong emotions in the viewer.

Harsh light and the contrast between light and shadow can provide some interesting photo
opportunities, as well as some challenges!

In this meetup, we will be looking at how you can use your camera's settings to nail the exposure.

I truly feel like I was being ?taught? ? not just trying to mimic an artist. I?ve been to some other ?classes? and we were just encouraged to follow. This teacher started with the basics and then led us to create a painting by showing us techniques that we could translate to other projects. It was the first class I was shown different brush strokes.

Excellent. The initial exercise of wet on wet circles was a great way of getting us ready for the main attraction, the loose flowers. The fun thing was that everyone?s image was beautiful! Terrific instruction.

I created the watercolor "October Sunset" from a photo I took at an Artist's retreat a couple of years ago. I've been going to this retreat for over 15 years, and every year we take time to walk down to the lake and watch the beautiful sunsets. This piece was painted on a full sheet of 140lb Arches watercolor paper and it was fun to watch it evolve with layer upon layer of color and brush stroke. I am a multimedia artist currently working predominantly in watercolor, mixed media, and colla

Title or Location: October Sunset
I have attended Midwest Collage Society's artists' retreats at Camp Alexander Mack, in Indiana, for many years. Every year I would marvel at the sunsets and I took several photos of sunsets over a small lake at the camp. I particularly liked this view and decided to use it as a reference photo for my watercolor painting to remind me of the beauty of the camp and the fun I had creating at the retreats.

Title or Location: Island Sunset
This 9x12 watercolor was inspired by a photograph of the Turks and Caicos Islands at sunset where she was recently visiting. Plam trees dominate tge scene overlaying the bushes with a peek of the cabanas and calm ocean in the background. You see the sky at sunset with dark rainclouds on the horizon. I painted this piece to exemplify atmospheric landscapes with both energy and tranquility,

Title or Location: The Marshes
This 9x12 watercolor is a depiction of wetlands typical of Georgia at sunset. It's painted in a loose and expressive style. A central blue waterway snakes through the dense green reeds of the foreground marsh, reflecting the golden light of the sky with gray clouds and a distant line of green trees in the background giving it depth and perspective.
